Dear Friends,
Growing up in a tough south Warren neighborhood, I learned early on the importance of being bold, holding your ground, and resiliency. I was not born into privilege, my home was badly broken, and my parents struggled with poverty and many other challenges. Despite, these early difficulties, I was blessed and fortunate to have incredible role models, teachers, and coaches that taught me my life had purpose and meaning. That my fate was not predetermined, I could be whatever I was willing to work for, and my future was limitless. My football and wrestling coaches, Mr. Benefield and Mr. Delia were inspirational, motivating, and encouraging from my early days at Lincoln High School right up through present day. The lessons they taught me not only shaped my professional career but helped me to be a better husband and father.
Professionally, over the past 30 years, I’ve shared these lessons with Macomb County’s most vulnerable and broken families. Trying my best to instill hope and self-determination into children and advocating for families that often times felt forgotten and thrown away. Helping them up and showing them that hard work, resiliency and faith can take us places we never thought possible has been my life’s work. I’ve brought that same philosophy to my work on the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees and I’m just as passionate today as I was when I was sworn into office 8 years ago. Sworn in surrounded by my wife, daughters, friends, and Coaches Benefield and Delia.
If returned to the Board, I pledge to stay vigilant and work tirelessly on the issues most important to you. Smart development is key! We do not need a strip mall jammed into every vacant patch of dirt in the Township. I will only support well thought out development that enhances our community. I will continue to fight for the best Public Safety Department on the planet at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers. I will make certain that our water department is as efficient as possible and not allow mismanagement to be quietly converted into to higher water bills. I will be your watchdog and force transparency regardless of the resistance from career politicians. Most importantly, I will continue to be a bold advocate for you! I’ve developed a strong reputation for helping our residents and I’m most tenacious when those needing help have been marginalized or pushed aside.
Almost 30 years ago, my wife Christine and I made Chesterfield our home. We knew that this beautiful community on the shores of Lake St. Clair was where we wanted to raise our family. Our community has seen considerable change in the 30 past years and with our brightest days on the horizon, there is still much work to be done.
I am hopeful to return to the Chesterfield Township Board of Trustees as your voice and advocate. I am profoundly grateful for your past support and ask that you continue to stand by me.
Thank you!
David Joseph
